Preparing for the Event

Are you a little daunted by the thought of climbing over 1000 steps?

Preparing for a fitness event is just as important as taking part! The most important aims in exercise preparation are to provide your body with enough fuel and water to complete the task, remain injury free, and recover swiftly!

The are a number of ways that you can prepare your body for this type of fitness challenge. This includes starting an exercise training program tailored to the stair climb event, altering your food intake in the days leading up to the event, and stretching your muscles pre and post event.

Step up for MS Event 2010

Preparing for the Step Up challenge will allow you to:

  • be confident in competing if it is your first time doing the stair climb
  • try and beat your previous time if you have entered the event before
  • ensure your body has enough fuel stores so that you don't "hit the wall" when you are almost at the top
  • keep your body hydrated so that you can utilise those energy stores
  • reduce the risk of sustaining any injuries such as ankle sprain, or hamstring tear
  • have a faster recovery time after you get to the top
  • wake up without really tight and sore legs the next day (or the day after!)
